Who is Timemore

Timemore Chestnut C3 ESP Manual Coffee Grinder
The Timemore Chestnut C3 ESP is a manual coffee grinder designed to cover filter coffee and espresso with a single burr set and adjustment system.
The grinder uses an aluminium alloy body with a textured grip and a centrally supported burr shaft. Internally, Timemore has reinforced the structure compared to earlier C‑series grinders to improve burr stability under load.
The handle detaches for storage and travel. Overall size and weight remain practical for home use or transport.
Burrs and Grinding Performance
The C3 ESP uses 38 mm S2C (Spike‑to‑Cut) stainless‑steel conical burrs. This burr geometry cracks the bean before cutting it, which reduces fines and improves particle consistency.
In use, grinding feels more direct than older C‑series grinders, particularly with light or dense beans. At filter settings, the grinder produces an even distribution suitable for pour‑over and immersion brewing. The burrs behave consistently across the full grind range.
The burr design does not change between espresso and filter settings, which keeps flavour characteristics predictable when switching brew methods.
Adjustment System (ESP)
The defining feature of the C3 ESP is its fine‑stepped adjustment plate.
The grinder provides over 60 usable steps, with smaller spacing between clicks than the standard C3 or C2 models. This allows controlled adjustment for espresso while still covering coarse filter settings.
Adjustment happens internally and remains stable during grinding. Moving across the range takes more turns than coarse‑stepped grinders, but the smaller step size allows more precise recipe control.
Filter and Espresso Use
The C3 ESP works well for filter coffee. The finer step size allows small grind changes without overshooting, which is useful when adjusting pour‑over recipes or flow rates.
The ESP adjustment also makes the grinder usable for espresso with unpressurised baskets. Grinding speed remains manual, but resistance stays manageable, and dial‑in is possible.
This makes the C3 ESP a practical option for users who brew multiple styles and do not want separate grinders.

C3 ESP vs C2: What Is Different?
The C3 ESP replaces the C2 rather than sitting alongside it.
The C2 uses standard stainless‑steel conical burrs and a coarse‑stepped adjustment system. This works well for filter coffee but limits fine control and makes espresso impractical.
The C3 ESP introduces two meaningful changes:
- Burr design: The C3 ESP uses S2C burrs, which reduce fines and improve consistency compared to the C2’s standard burrs.
- Adjustment system`The ESP plate provides much smaller step sizes, allowing espresso grind adjustment while still covering filter ranges.
In filter use, the main difference is control rather than flavour profile. In espresso use, the difference is usability.
When both grinders are priced similarly, the C3 ESP offers broader use without giving up filter performance.
- Comes with improved burrs that enhance the grinding efficiency and consistency, making it more suitable for various brewing methods.
- Provides more precise grind adjustments, allowing for finer control over the grind size, which is crucial for different brewing techniques.
- Improved construction with better burr stability and overall sturdiness, making it a more robust option.
- Designed for those who seek a more refined coffee experience, making it ideal for enthusiasts and baristas.
